My work lives in the intersecting spaces of forced migration, trauma, and healing, all informed by my experiences as a clinician, educator and researcher.
My Areas of Expertise
Research
My research has focused on three specific areas: Experiences of forced migrants; Mental health interventions in low resource settings; and Mental health consequences of human rights work.
Clinical Work
While my current clinical work has focused on forced migrant populations, I have also worked with individuals and families dealing with chronic illness, and families in foster care.
Consultations
I provide human rights consultations and conduct forensic evaluations for cases in Immigration and Federal court involving torture, trauma, and maltreatment. I have worked with international, private, and public entities, including the International Criminal Court in The Hague, The Bronx Defenders, and Federal Defenders of New York.
Teaching
My teaching philosophy centers on the belief that effective teaching actively engages and challenges students both inside and outside the formal classroom setting.
