Research

My research has primarily focused on forced migrant populations, mental health interventions, and the impact of Vicarious Trauma/Compassion Fatigue on service professionals.

Experiences of forced migrants

My research in this area has been informed by my extensive clinical experience at the Bellevue Program for Survivors of Torture. Within this clinical setting I have collaborated with immigrant serving organizations to provide culturally-informed therapeutic interventions and conduct research to enhance service provision to address the needs of vulnerable migrant populations.

Mental health interventions in low resource settings

My collaborations with colleagues in Sierra Leone and Nigeria highlights the critical need for evidence-based and practice-based interventions to address mental health needs in sub-Saharan Africa. This research also offers invaluable lessons for mental health service provision in low resource settings.

Mental health consequences of human rights work

My experiences in human rights work has heightened my awareness of the toll this work can take on professionals working in this field. This knowledge has led to ongoing research aimed at improving individual, professional, and organizational approaches in order to identify and reduce factors that lead to Secondary Traumatic Stress/Vicarious Trauma and Compassion Fatigue.
